Dear Diary,
Do you have a person in your life who see's beauty in places you'd never think of, has a creative eye, and a profound appreciation for different cultures, and history. I could go on and on, but that's my one of my best friends, my big sis Sapphire.
This look was inspired by a picture that she saw on Instagram. Sapphire is a naturally gifted visual artists, so when she told me she wanted to re-create a tribal inspired look, I was completely on board. Keeping it simple yet chic with black-on-black, I decided to combine an ancestral marking inspired feel with a sporty grunge finish. I find that the best creations come to life when you let loose and go with the flow. Other than cultural inspiration, there was no defined vision or end goal for this look. Once we decided on an outfit and got on location, the magic just happened.
What I loved the most about this entire concept was the confidence and self-empowerment that it exudes! There was a moment in time and still until this day when some women of colour are ashamed of how they look. Well let me know you this hunny...we in 2017 and enough is ENOUGH! Your black is OH SO BEAUTIFUL. There is no formula or equation to beauty and if you feel like you want to change something about yourself, let that be because YOU came to that decision on your own and no one made you feel like you are anything short of amazing and gorgeous.
I dedicate this post to all of my beautiful kinky-curl, plump lip, round nose, curvaceous, skinny, and everything in between sistas - You are Queens, don't you ever forget.
